Land and Sea
Performed by Allyce Wood and Joanna Pacula aboard the Stine Line Danske Båt presented by OCG as part of Cabin Economy Contemporay Sailing Stormy Waters / Last journey
This work consisted of two performers, the artist, and her colleague, and spanned a 28-hour journey aboard a cruise ship traveling from Oslo to Frederikshavn.
Wood and Paccula were wrapped in printed vinyl flags; the layered imagery depicting fields of wheat and forests as well as ocean waves, the respective flora and fauna of both human animals and sea creatures. The flags were brandished as banners, similar to Greenpeace's protests of the 1990s as well as used as windbreaks and temporary shelters from the Nordic sleet.
The performers interacted with their fellow passengers, singing songs and chanting slogans promoting equality between all surrounding species.
This piece was created and performed in 2018.
